dads are the original hipsters.

bookmarked...

Your dad rode a bike before you did. When you dusted off his old bike in the garage, did you think by some form of velo-magic it had appeared there? No, your dad rode that thing hard when he was younger, just like your mom. And now, because of having to support you living in Portland, he doesn’t ride anymore. So what do you do? You come home for Christmas, steal his bike and then strip it down into a converted fixie. Well hipster, next time you’re doing a track stand on the corner of 6th and Davis St remember, your dad’s balls sweated on that seat first.

Random Thoughts | Black Shoes

It's been a hot minute since I've sweated a pair of black shoes, let alone worn a pair for reasons beyond my own understanding. Maybe I felt as if black shoes a la Dr. Martens reminded me of "Ninja-Goth" dudes patrolling the mall (to each his own, but it's safe to say I couldn't pull off drop-crotch (harem) pants) or that black dress shoes always reminded me of bankers/financiers on Wall Street or even worse funerals/death. Whatever it may have been, black shoes haven't really appealed to me in the past couple years especially since business offices have become more 'lax with dress attire. I'm really loving these black shoes from Alden and I know summer is on it's way, but I'm really trying to think ahead towards Fall. The red brick sole of these give it a more summer look, but I believe if I'm going to pull the trigger on some black shoes for Fall, I'm definitely going to go with a contrast sole to give 'em that extra "zing".

swag you would kill for.

they're at it again...

The NBA Playoffs haven't been this exciting to me in a long...long time. Each and every first round match up was must see television. Living in Houston, it's safe to say it's been quite some time since we had something to celebrate about. Having grown up in the 90's (like I've stated numerous times) it was really hard to fathom not winning let alone not making the playoffs. The back-to-back championships in '94 and '95 was something definitely worth celebrating about, and at the time I really didn't understand how special, let alone how great it was to live in Houston. Yeah all you nay-sayers can say "Jordan" wasn't in the league and I get that, but nothing changes the fact that Houston had a lot to celebrate about in the 90's.

As I continue to be glued to the television during these playoffs (although my team isn't in it) the feeling I get watching them is almost reminiscent of that indescribable feeling I got at the pit of my stomach when I watched Hakeem and Co. battle some of the NBA greats such as (Barkley, Robinson, Ewing, O'Neal, Hardaway and many more). Many memorable moments are in engrained in my head, but the two that stick out are posted above. How sweet it was...
