As I continue to get older I am starting to understand, appreciate and value the importance of "fit". Not to discredit quality made goods cause I love 'em to death, but what good is a great shirt/pants if it fits you like a potato sack? (That may have sounded better in my head)

That's where the "Tailored Gang" come in. These dudes are some of the crispiest dudes on the internet and even more so a great reference if you want to get your "Grown Man Style" and fit on. These guys are doing some great things with their shop Run Of The Mill, that's carefully curated and well put together. So if you want to up step it up a notch, find a great tailor and start educating yourself on fits as well as fabrics or even better, you can ask one of these dudes. New Old Stock Visvim shoes from F/W 2008 that comes in waxed leather. I've been searching (understatement) for a pair of these for a reasonable price (the re-sale value on these are outrageous) since I saw my dude Bobby with 3 pair in L.A. Found these for a great price and it's safe to say that I can't be any happier. The leather is super soft and these are hands down the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. I can't wait to break these in this coming weekend in Chicago.

Call me an old fart, but I'm from a time when MTV stood for Music Television. Nowaday, all you see are re-runs of horrible reality shows (understatement) like 16 and Pregnant and 16 and Pregnant. Real talk, I'm beginning to think that's the only show on that channel as well as some show that's called "Teen Wolf" that does not feature Scott Howard, Boof, or Stiles (disaster). But that's a rant for another day...I've digressed.

Before you tell me to stop complaining, allow me to give you some further insight that I hope will drive the point home (see how I've bolded hope). Music videos are a part of my life whether I like it or not. I didn't have cable growing up so it was a treat/privledge to catch and or veg out in front of a television to Yo! MTV Raps or Headbanger's Ball...and umm Pop Up Videos on VH1(I'm not ashamed, maybe a lil to say I watched them). I guess what I'm trying to say is that I miss music videos and with the dog days of summer upon us (it's horrible here in Houston where the humidity kicks it up a notch or two) we're forced in doors to watch senseless television because there really is nothing on these days, like I previously stated above. Unless tennis and/or soccer are your sports of choice...but let's get one thing straight, this is America, where a sportisn't considered a sport unless blood and full contact are permissible.

Enter New York City Queens hailing from The H..that's Houston for all you non-Houstonians. I've had the privledge of getting to talk to one of the members of the band while doing a photoshoot with my family over at 3Kings and their debut music video is definitely off the chain. From their cinematography, to style, to sound, I love everything about this particular video. I'm a sucker for music videos, but when paired with a great sense of style and sound, the video becomes much more powerful. That's probably one of the many reasons why I'm drawn to Jake Davis TestShots. New York City Queens has certainly drawn my attention and I look forward to hearing more from them in the near future as well as hearing them live [insert: shameless plug to all Houston Venues].

Congrats to Daniela and the rest of the crew for putting together what I like to call a "breathe of fresh air" and originality as well as taking me back to my adolescent years where I would sit on the couch and watch Vanessa Minnillo...err I mean TRL all day long. There's almost something so distinct about city girls it has to be said. This could be why blogs like The Sartorialist are so captivating. To me, city girl's look so effortlessly put together (although it's safe to say their looks are well thought out probably days in advance). Also, city girl seem to exude a lot of confidence and I can see why when they're thrown into city's like New York and L.A where it's fight or flight and everyone is out to be somebody. Confidence paired with intellect in my humble opinion tend to outweigh beauty on any given day due in large that no amount of money on this Earth can buy you either of the characteristics.

Before I go off on a tangent, which I tend to do quite often allow me to salute the city girl for keepin it real as well allowing girls to check, check, check their swag and keep up to date.

when you expect nothing and get everything, that's destiny...

Pleated khakis, chambray shirts, denim jeans and jackets , tanktops with flannel check shirts, navy colored beanies, and all black sunglasses...need I say more?

Blood In, Blood Out was not just a movie, but based on true life experiences of poet Jimmy Santiago Baca. I'm not exactly sure how it spoke to me growing up because I was neither "chicano" nor did I grow up in East L.A., nonetheless, there was something about the film that was so powerful. Maybe it was the fact that Director Taylor Hackford shot the film inside San Quentin Prison and managed to get a great deal of prisoners to act in the film, which in essence, intertwined movies with reality (hence the reason I watch Entourage). Whatever the case may be, this was a great movie with even greater style. I may not wear my chambray shirt button all the way to the top nor only have the top button buttoned, but I definitely love a lot of these looks as well as what looks to be a French Work (Chore) Jacket in picture 8.

If you haven't had the chance to, or have never watched the movie I suggest you "Netflix" it.

Bolivar Pennisula - Fathers Day 2011

Better late than never right? It's been about a week since my last post and a lot has gone on since then. First and foremost, I want to say a Happy Belated Father's Day to all the amazing father's out there. It was quite refreshing to be away from "civilization" and the hustle and bustle of what I like to call the internet. Sometimes, we (or I should say I) get caught up with things that may seem important at the time, but when I actually take the time to step back and breathe I realize that it's not really as important as I initially thought it may have been.With The Internet, Facebook, etc., etc., etc. it is sometimes hard to grasp the finer things in life i.e. family and friends and most importantly my marriage. I can't say I haven't missed the internet...but I'm very thankful to have had some time to step away, even only if it's been a week or so. (but who's counting right?)

Although these are two totally different things picture (Pitti Uomo) and video (The Rigout IV:The Stream) I feel that these styles both in picture and video are sort of intertwined. when keepin' it real goes wrong...

We are all students of style and by no means do I consider myself to be an expert. I simply draw from life experiences and things that have influenced my past and present. Like James Wilson of Secret Forts has said, "Style is this unforced, natural thing...you just have to find what it is about it that's a part of you."

I came across this post this morning while perusing the internet via Style Blogger titled "Brooklyn Prepster" which left me scratching my head. There is no right or wrong way to define "personal" style because umm...it's personal, but I just feel the Supreme 5-panel Lynton is sporting in these pictures just seems out of place. I mean take away the cap from these pics and the dudes looking fresh, but the cap makes me think he's trying way too hard and is not keeping it one hundred. In my humble opinion, Lynton should ditch the cap from these looks or substitute the Supreme Cap in the first picture with an Ebbets Field Cap.

These common mistakes are sometimes hard to avoid, having the internet at the palm of your hands and hearing countless people (like myself) tell you what to or what not to wear, but at the end of the day I believe you should ALWAYS do you, but at the same time understand what goes together and steer clear of "trend-humping" which I described here. I'm no mind reader by any means and for all I know he can be taking the whole eff 'em attitude, but to me, this cap just clashes with the rest of the unit...just saying.

My brother-in-law and his girlfriend came down from Chicago with a special delivery...Garrett Popcorn. Simply stated, "GLORIOUS."

I remember it like it was yesterday. My girlfriend (now my wife) were walking down "The Magnificent Mile" on a cool Chicago day a couple years back when this amazing aroma almost floored me. So I did what any normal human being or toucan would do and followed my nose. My nose led me to this amazing little shop that happened to be packed with people inside and out (the line was literally out the door). It's safe to say the popcorn didn't disappoint then and now. Are ALWAYS on their A-Game when it comes to style whether it be their uncanny attention to details or the fit of their clothing, English dudes always seem to be on point. I really like Andrew Wren's take on style. Whether or not he's really trying hard (because he's being photographed) or not, he looks real comfortable and relaxed in his clothes, which in turn gives off the vibe as if he isn't tryin' hard at all to look just right. I'm really diggin' the fact that his shirt is untucked (even in the blazer) and I really like how he killed it in a blue shirt, black pants and shoes and some blue socks for contrast. Also I'm really feelin' that navy blue polka shirt...that shirt is off the chain.

In turn, you should always be comfortable in your clothing, if the tucked menswear look isn't you, that's alright at the end of the day you should always do you...unless that means matching your kicks with you shirt, hat or both...or wearing some crispy shoes and deciding to waddle like a penguin (just saying). That's just plain retarded...they're shoes for Pete's sake.

Charitable Contribution: The Hill-Side Wa Handerkerchief

this was at my front door today...

By far one of the most elaborate packages I've ever received in the mail. Definitely lots of thought, effort and consideration put into this. This is a beautifully made handkerchief, whereas all the benefits from the sale of these will go The International Rescue Committee. My wife was definitely not opposed to this for a number of reasons. One, it was going to a great cause, and two this handkerchief will replace my "red" bandana print pocket square which she has had some (safety) concerns about...but that's a story for another day. With 100% of the proceeds going to charity I wonder if this can be taken as a "Charitable Contribution" on my taxes? Hmmm...going to highlight this on my bank statement and re-visit this at a later date.

The weather was great last weekend for Haute Wheels and has just started to get a bit humid. This is what I wore this past week.

Supreme Box Logo Pique Knit 5 Panel Cap
Picked up this cap at Supreme in California a couple months back and love how breathable it is. Since I've had to grow up and put away the fitted caps this is the perfect cap for bike rides with the wife. I love everything about this 5-panel and with the heat stepping up a couple notches here in Houston, it's safe to say this cap will get lots of wear this summer.

Polo Ralph Lauren Chambray Shirt
Not sure if this shirt was suppose to be at the local outlet here in Houston. It was one of those one offs that was severely marked down (hence the gold mark on the tag) and since it was my size, I had to pick it up. Love the color of the lighter chambray for summer and the fit is definitely on point. Not much more to say about this garment, but it's built to last.

A friend of mine gave me a couple of these t-shirts before I went to college and this is what's happens when you've kept them for over 10 years. Very breathable shirt, super soft, very durable, and made in the U.S.A. Hope to have this shirt for another 10 more years.

C.W.C G-10 Military Watch
This is probably my go to watch during the summer especially since it gets so humid here in Houston and there's nothing worse (I'm exaggerating) than hot stainless steel burning your wrist. Love this watch and since I'm pretty clumsy it's a great watch for me.

Levis 501 Salt-Soaked Selvedge Jeans
Bought these from J.Crew when there were $10. Probably my second time breaking them out but I really like the fit. You have to be a little more careful with the jeans and should opt to not wear any white for a while because the indigo will bleed onto your t-shirt or shoes. I'm a little more odd, whereas I really should look to start wearing khakis since it's so hot here, but I really wanted to test these out and will be wearing them on and off during summer. Since my thighs nor legs will be able to breath, I decided to go with a bigger cuff so at the very least my ankles could breathe.

John Varvatos Laceless Chuck Taylors
I know the title says "laceless" and I promise you when I bought them like 8 years ago...they were. About a year ago, I decided to un-stich the thread along the grommets and insert leather laces into them. These have been through a lot and the soles have held up pretty well. May need to run them through the wash cause I'm sure they have quite a distinct odor since I've been wearing them without socks for 6 of the 8 years.

It's safe to say the NBA Playoffs have been some what of a "Circus" this season where anything goes. At the beginning of the season would you believe Oklahoma City would be playing Dallas in the Western Conference Finals? Highly doubt it. While the series is tied 1-1 and Brendon Haywood is still attempting to recover from that nasty facial he received a la Durant, one player really stepped up his game tonight and that was James Harden. It may just be the beard but James Harden reminds me so much of Ouigi Theodore of The Brooklyn Circus it's almost scary. James Harden stepped up his game tonight and went bananas (like Mark B. said, this too may also be one of my new favorite players). One of my favorite brands....meet one of my new favorite players.

Although, I for one will humbly admit that I can't pull off a Kangol, (due in large to my watermelon size noggin') I'm really loving the old school bucket hat. Not exactly sure why. Maybe it's that nostalgic feeling I get at the pit of my stomach when something "just feels right". Or maybe because it reminds me of a time when hip-hop was hip-hop and Run DMC was straight killin' it, and movies err were... well...ORIGINAL like Breakin' (Sidenote: Hollywood what's up with all the re-makes? I mean is there anything original these days? Oh and if Soljah Boy plays Bishop in Juice #$#%#%...sorry I've digressed).

Whatever the case may be, I'd figure I'd dust off an old bucket and seeing as it's getting ready to get freakishly hot here in Houston, it's another great way to protect yourself from the dangerous UV rays. Unless, you want/like the leathery skin look, just sayin.

I really love the way the bucket hat is worn by the Japanese (#Japa-steeze) dudes pictured above. I too would opt for a larger brim, but instead of solid khaki, I'd put more color into my wardrobe with a patchwork bucket hat.

POW....WOW!

In an idea that came to fruition in the beginning of 2010 in Hong Kong, POW WOW
was created as an exhibition of creative talents which stressed more so
the background and development of art. As opposed to the often seen
focus on the finished product, POW WOW set forth in giving the public
access to artists in their element as they went to work on their
respective pieces. In this series, we take a look at POW WOW 2011 which
took place in founder Jasper Wong’s
native Hawai’i and the comprehensive process that surrounded the event.
While Hawai’i has had its fair share of creative output, POW WOW has
represented the island’s most concentrated effort to help push and build
the local artistic community.
